Q.Which director would you like to work with next who you haven’t yet worked with?
There are loads of directors I’d like to work with. Susanne Bier (The Night Manager) is definitely one.
Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love sport so quite a bit of my spare time is spent as a volunteer coaching rugby in the local comprehensive. I coach tennis there too. My own two lads went to the school and I wanted to try and help them and other kids have the same opportunities that I had at school.
Q.Your role in undercover can you tell us a bit about your character?
My character in Undercover Hooligan is a seen it all before, experienced senior copper who sees a chance to nail a powerful gang leader by bringing in two crack undercover agents. Hawkins is a bit long in the tooth now so it may well be his last case…
Q. How do you know when a film role is right for you?
When a film role is right it just feels right. You find the character comes easily and you’re comfortable in the audition. It can almost take care of itself.
Q. Is there anything you find challenging when starring in a movie?
Filming can be challenging in all sorts of ways. I just worked on something where at the end of a very long scene I had to fly backwards through a glass door on to a concrete floor after being shot. The director didn’t want to cut and use the stunt man and there was no soft landing. Even worse I couldn’t wear any padding so we spent two hours rehearsing this one fall with the fight director and then gave it a go…we got through three panes of (sugar) glass but I survived (with a little help from first aid).
Q. Can you tell us a bit about the film Undercover?
Undercover Hooligan is a cracking, action packed, roller coaster of a crime movie. The director, producers, crew (and cast too!) have done a great job in creating a gripping white knuckle ride through the menacing British underworld. It was great fun to work on!
