Colchester City Council is making improvements to its business waste collection service to help local businesses comply with new simpler recycling regulations that come into effect on 1 April 2025, under The Environment Act 2021.
From February 2025, the council’s business waste service will expand its recycling collections to include more materials. Businesses will need to separate their waste into the following categories:
Paper and card
Plastics
Tins, cans, and aerosols
Glass
Food waste
Non-recyclable waste
The updated service will help businesses stay compliant with the new regulations while offering affordable pricing with no extra weight charges, flexible contracts to suit business needs, and a focus on giving back to the community by reinvesting profits into Colchester.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhood Services and Leisure, said: “With around 64% of businesses across the country unprepared for these upcoming changes, we really want to make sure that businesses, in Colchester at least, are ready for the changes that are happening on 1 April.
“The council’s business waste service is here to make compliance simple and stress-free for local businesses while ensuring a sustainable future for our community.”
