Hundreds of students supported with computer-related courses over the last year.
Adult Community Learning Essex and Colchester City Council are celebrating one year since Colchester’s Digital Hub opened.
The Digital Hub opened in October 2023. It provides a space for local residents and businesses to access advanced technological equipment. It also allows ACL Essex to offer more computing-related courses.
Since the Digital Hub opened, ACL Essex has supported hundreds of learners to gain computing qualifications. It has helped local people learn about technology related subject areas and boost IT skills. A number of family- orientated events have also been hosted by the hub.
Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability said:
“Having the Digital Hub at ACL Essex’s Colchester centre has helped boost the number of people they can support with their digital learning.
“It is important to provide opportunities for our local people that help them keep up to date with digital skills. New courses that support people to learn about AI, or even how to start their own podcast, are so valuable in today’s technological world.”
ACL Essex can support learners to boost their knowledge about AI, support digital learning with VR headsets, or use computers at the hub if they do not have access at home.
Councillor David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, has also appreciated the partnership over the last year.
He said: “The Digital Hub at ACL Essex in Colchester has opened doors for our local people. The hub helps to expose people to technology they may not have encountered before but also supports them to use computers for their everyday work. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone who has been involved in reaching and celebrating the hubs first birthday.
“Colchester as a key location for digital businesses and learning has been gaining momentum for some years. From the Digital Forum being built on Queen Street, to the Universities Innovation Centre, technology is offering a fresh perspective and experience for our city.”
Several new digital courses are taking place at ACL Essex this academic year. To find out more about what’s on offer, or to sign up to a course, visit www.aclessex.com/digital.
