The project manager at Bellway’s Sapphire Fields at Great Dunmow Grange development in Essex has won two prestigious industry awards from the National House Building Council (NHBC).

Adam Hawkes, 45, was announced as the winner of the Pride in the Job Regional Award for the National House Building Council’s South East region, as well as a coveted Seal of Excellence, at a ceremony held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Brighton on Friday 25 October.

The NHBC runs the Pride in the Job awards every year, judging all its registered construction sites – that’s around 8,000 developments – for a series of honours. This year it gave out 449 Quality Awards to site managers nationally and from those winners has chosen the recipients of its Seal of Excellence awards – as well as naming the very best site managers in each region for the Regional Award.

This is the first year that Adam, from Burnham-on-Crouch, has received a Pride in the Job Award, though he was part of the team at Sapphire Fields that was recognised with a Quality Award last year.

He said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to the NHBC and the independent inspectors for the awards that I received on Friday. I feel truly honoured and grateful for the recognition that myself, my site team, and the sub-contractors who work at Sapphire Fields have been given.

Another winner on the night was Philip Taylor, who is project manager at Bellway’s Beaulieu Grange development in Chelmsford, Essex. He was awarded a Seal of Excellence. Philip won a Quality Award earlier this year and has two previous Quality Awards under his belt.

Philip, 61, from Chelmsford, said: “It was fantastic to win the Seal of Excellence as it makes all the hard work worthwhile and is a great accolade for the whole team on site, who go above and beyond to ensure the highest quality of construction. I’d also like to congratulate Adam on his Regional Award; it is well deserved, and it was a great result for Bellway.”

Bellway Essex Construction Director Paul Feeney said: “This is a phenomenal achievement from Adam. To win your first Quality Award and then go on to win a Seal of Excellence and then the Regional Award in the same year is exceptional and Adam deserves every bit of his success. Congratulations to him and to the whole team at Sapphire Fields at Great Dunmow Grange.

“And great congratulations also to Philip on his Seal of Excellence which was also richly deserved and a reflection of the work put in by Philip and his team at Beaulieu Grange.”

Adam will now go on to compete in the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards, which will be announced early next year.
