Chelmsford is set to host its first-ever multi-venue music festival, the Sounds Good Festival, on the 13th and 14th of September 2024.

Organized by the city’s beloved not-for-profit venue, Hot Box, this two-day event will showcase the vibrant energy of Chelmsford’s and the UK’s emerging and established artists, with a few surprise acts also lined up.

Spread across four iconic Chelmsford locations—Hot Box, Chelmsford Theatre Studio, Tindal Square, and Voodoo Keller Bar—the Sounds Good Festival promises to be a landmark event for the local music scene. With a lineup of 37 acts, festival-goers can expect a diverse range of music, from indie and rock to electronic and alternative, reflecting the eclectic tastes of today’s music lovers.

As part of its commitment to the local community, the festival will provide hands-on training and experience to 60 young volunteers, offering them a behind-the-scenes look at how grassroots venues and festivals operate. This initiative reflects Hot Box’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of music industry professionals, and the festival’s community-oriented ethos.

Dave Hughes, owner of Hot Box, said: “Sounds Good Festival is more than just a music event; it’s a celebration of the grassroots movement that keeps live music thriving in our communities. We’re proud to showcase such a diverse range of talent in Chelmsford, and to offer young volunteers the chance to learn the ropes in the industry. This is all about fostering the next generation of music lovers and professionals. We’re excited to bring this unique experience to our city.”

The Sounds Good Festival marks a significant moment for Chelmsford, as it becomes the first multi-venue music festival to take place in the city. With a mix of intimate performances, outdoor sets, and surprise guest appearances, the festival is poised to re-establish Chelmsford as a key destination for live music in the UK.
