A giant handmade rug featuring British icon, Danny Dyer, lounging in a women’s kimono, has become the latest attraction in Essex, appearing on the grounds of a local pub.
With its larger-than-life presence, the huge 3m x 6m rug is part of a prank orchestrated by Dyer’s Mr Bigstuff co-star Ryan Sampson, to mark the launch of their new comedy series which starts on Sky Max and streaming service NOW, Wednesday 17July.
The prank was captured and shared on Sky TV and Ryan’s social channels and gives a sneak preview into the pair’s comedic onscreen friendship.
Mr Bigstuff creator Ryan Sampson quipped: “I have created a tv show Mr Bigstuff for Sky and it stars Mr Dyer himself, and also myself, as brothers”.
“Now I needed to do something truly momentous to commemorate this – something which would immortalise Daniel Dyer, raising him to the status of legend as he so thoroughly deserves… And thus, inspiration struck me. I play a carpet salesman so here he is immortalised in the biggest rug known to Essex. For Danny deserves a deep shag… Pile!”
The unexpected sight of the colossal rug had Danny Dyer stunned and in hysterics, as he said:
“I love it! I want it! Am I a narcissist if I have it on the floor in my gaff?”
The six-part series set in Loughton Essex, written by Sampson, is about two estranged brothers. It sees him play Glen a nervy perfectionist and ‘carpet salesman’ striving to live the suburban ideal and Lee (Dyer), an alpha male who disrupts his brother’s life when he rocks back into his life with a biscuit tin full of their dad’s ashes. Mr Bigstuff is a relatable, irreverent comedy about brotherhood, manhood and carpet sales in Essex.
The rug was created by Jaymond Ahn and Jenny Kim, artists and founders of Cheeky Studio in London, with help from Ryan Sampson and took 425 hours to complete, using 36 colours of yarn.
Mr Bigstuff is available to watch on Sky Max and streaming service NOW from Wednesday 17 July 2024.
