Chelmsford-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £1,500 to Friends of Mildmay Primary School enhance the school experience for over 600 children.
The charity for the school, also based in Chelmsford, was established by the parents of the pupils at Mildmay Primary School who work tirelessly to support the students and the school’s resource base for hearing impaired children. The continuous work the charity extends further than the pupils of Mildmay Primary School, as many children travel from around the county to attend its specialised hearing unit.
Despite the charity holding its own regular fundraising schemes, such as seasonal fetes and raffles, it expressed their immense gratitude for the generosity of Barratt and David Wilson Homes. The donation has allowed the charity to purchase equipment to enhance its forest school and install an outdoor classroom, offering an alternative activity for the students during break times.
Karen Sharrock, Chair of the Friends of Mildmay Primary School, said: “Following discussions with the school, we decided an ideal addition and appropriate use of the generous donation would be to purchase an outdoor classroom to give the children a peaceful space for reading. We had noticed this was a preferred choice for many of the students, rather than using the play equipment.
“We have been so fortunate to be able to fund our own specialist reading materials, sports kits and many other items to assist the children, however, we can only afford so much and the donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes will help immensely.”
The donation came as part of The Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
