One lucky child has been chosen as the winner of Harlow Museum and Walled Garden’s bike art competition, which ran over the summer.

Entrants had to design a bike as part of the build-up to the Tour of Britain, which held the end of its sixth stage here in Harlow on Friday 8 September, to be in with a chance of winning the cost of a new bike.

Olivia Ann Mitchell, who is 9 and from Harlow, produced a fantastic, colourful rainbow bike design which featured a speed boost, a litter picker, popcorn fire, a light, wings and a solar panel. Her drawing also featured sculptures from Harlow and animals from Pets’ Corner.

Commenting on her win, Olivia said:

“I felt so happy, excited and surprised because I didn’t think I would be the one to receive a bike prize, I can’t believe I was chosen!

“I thank whoever chose my drawing.”

Olivia was presented with her prize and a certificate by Councillor Stacy Seales, cabinet portfolio holder for community, at the museum’s community fete held recently.

Councillor Seales said:

“What a great picture – Olivia’s artistic talents shone through in her competition entry and the addition of some of the town’s well-known sculptures and Pets’ Corner favourites was a great little touch.

“I hope Olivia has lots of fun getting out and about on her new bike, and makes good use of our extensive cycle track network.”
