Former Bayern star, Alan McInally, believes it’s a ‘wonderful’ move for Harry Kane ahead of his proposed €100m transfer to the Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich .
It was confirmed on Thursday morning that the German champions will break their transfer record to seal the England Captain and make sure that Tottenham’s all-time leading goal scorer will be ready for their first game against SV Werder Breman on the 18th of August.
McInally also swapped the UK shores for the Bundesliga in 1989 and managed to win the Bundesliga in his first season, spoke exclusively to Champions (UK) Plc, he said and said: “I think it’s a wonderful move for Harry because at one point certainly, I thought it wasn’t going to happen.
“Not that he was desperate to go but it’s been dragging on for too long now as there’s no question Bayern wanted him as they wouldn’t have gone back with an extra few million to get him, but yes, they are getting a fabulous footballer.”
Kane – who is out of contract next summer – wanted his future resolved before Tottenham’s season-opening Premier League game at Brentford on Sunday August 13th.
Kane scored 30 Premier League goals last season in a campaign where Spurs fell short of Champions Leage football as they finished eighth and remain without a trophy since 2008.
“Trophies is something that is probably on his mind as everybody speaks about it, but the Goalscoring record would have been very high on his agenda. I didn’t have to leave Aston Villa back in the day, but when Bayern come calling and you go and speak to them and see what the place is like, it sways you. Trust me.
“As a player he’ll get everything, you’re treated fantastically well, and the fans are brilliant. There’s no question that he’ll be a success over there as I think he will be, but he’ll need to learn the language over there. That was something that was high priority for me as he’ll benefit from it for sure.”
Former England striker, Dean Ashton, believes that although trophies will be easier to come by in Munich, becoming the all-time goal scorer in the Premier League would mean more.
“It’s a huge decision to make but his legacy in the premier league will never be forgotten.
“Harry is a complete player, so it’s no surprise that a giant team like Bayern have come in for him.
“It’s always going to be a difficult decision for him as if he stays in the Premier League, I’m pretty sure he will get the all-time scoring record and will continue to be one of the all-time greats but of course, the lure of trophies will always be there.
“Bayern is a massive club and of course, trophies are pretty much guaranteed but personally I would stay and go for the premier league all-time goalscoring record. Can you imagine being known as the Premier League’s all-time goal scorer? That is huge for me as striker.”
“As a former striker, what I will say is that you have to be selfish and think of what is best for you. I’m sad to see him leave but if he does go, what a legacy he has not only at Spurs, but in the Premier League.”
Kane will not only swap clubs but has rumored to of signed a lifetime boot deal with US brand, Skechers, who are branching into the football boot market.
Kane has been wearing plain back boots in pre-season training with Tottenham this summer as well as their tour in Asia and Australia.
He was also spotted wearing the mystery pair as he netted four in Spurs’ friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday.
