Colourful floral verges full of wildflowers, which are coming to life around the town, are all part of one of Harlow Council’s priorities – restoring pride in the town.
A joint initiative between Harlow Council and its maintenance company HTS has seen the number of floral verges doubled around the town to 8 following successful trial projects held in recent years. Floral verges are in the following areas:
* A414 Mark Hall roundabout
* Church Langley
* Howard Way
* Mark Hall Park/First Avenue
* Potter Street
* Second Avenue – opposite Leisurezone
* Southern Way – Longbanks
* Third avenue
* Water Lane
Councillor Nicky Purse, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, said:
“It is great that the floral verges are currently blooming with colour as we work hard on many different projects to restore pride in our town. The verges help enhance biodiversity by encouraging a wider range of wildlife including bees and other pollinators and so also help improve the natural environment.
“I know that that the verges are popular photo locations with residents who have been sharing images on social media and talking about the difference seeing these wildflowers in bloom make to the town.”
The council is planning several new planting projects around the town in housing estates and other areas as part of its work to restore pride in Harlow.
