Maldon community comes together to support David’s cancer fight

Friends and family of a Maldon man battling cancer joined together for a community day out to raise vital funds for his treatment.

David Neill launched a campaign to fund private treatment after being told by the NHS that there was nothing further they could do to treat his advanced stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Having twice undergone treatment for cancer before, David did not want to give up the fight. He and his wife Carly called on the generosity of others to help out.

Thanks to donations from across the Maldon community David’s campaign has so far raised over £37,000, and on Sunday 4th June 2023 his friends, family and neighbours at Taylor Wimpey’s Handley Gardens development in Maldon joined together to try to further boost his total.

The event, which was hosted by the Taylor Wimpey sales team, was held in the glorious sunshine and featured garden games, bouncy castles, prizes to be won, raffles, and food and drink. Around 100 people turned up to show their support for David, and helped raise £1,733 towards his treatment.

David’s wife Carly was full of gratitude towards the event organisers. She added: “We can’t thank you all enough, it was such an amazing day yesterday, I didn’t want it to end.”

As well as hosting the event, Taylor Wimpey matched the £1,733 raised on the day with a donation to David’s campaign. Ingrid Osborne, Divisional Chairman, London and South East, made a special visit to support the Handley Gardens team.

Michael O’Leary, Regional Operations Director at Taylor Wimpey London, said: “We care a lot about our customers, and when we heard David’s story we were eager to do whatever we could to help. It was fantastic to see so many people turn out in support of him and we are so pleased to see how much money was raised. All our thoughts are with David and his family as he goes through this treatment.”
