Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, raised constituents’ concerns over knife crime in the House of Commons by urging the Minister for Policing to restrict, or ban, the sale of machetes and zombie knifes.
Today, the House of Commons debated the Government’s announcement that there would be a new public consultation on machetes and zombie knives. This is, of course, a big issue to many in Basildon and Thurrock where residents have been expressing their serious concerns over the easy availability of zombie knives.

Stephen Metcalfe, in the House of Commons, said: “Whilst not wishing to pre-empt the outcome of the consultation, many of my constituents cannot comprehend how such dangerous weapons can be sold and end up in commonplace use on our streets, so I recognise the challenges but, please, do whatever it takes to get these off our streets, prosecute those who carry them, regardless of whether, or not, they claim it’s for self-defence and go as far as physically possible to ban, or restrict, and preferably ban, their sale.”
Chris Philp, Minister for Policing, Crime and Fire, said: “Well, I think my honourable friend speaks words of great wisdom and I agree with every single one of them.”
