ACTOR Tamer Hassan has revealed that his family in Turkey has been found safe after he’d initially heard nothing from them since the earthquake struck.
Tamer, best known for appearing in the movie The Football Factory, also told of his involvement in a £100,000 aid operation which is sending in supplies from Cyprus.
He told GB News: “We had some good news yesterday that my family have been found, in the early hours in the morning.
“We were told that they were found and they’re safe and well, by the grace of God.
“So thank you for everyone’s prayers and well-wishes, we don’t know too much information now but they have been found, which is amazing.”
Speaking in an interview with Stephen Dixon, he said: “I came out to Cyprus and we’ve all sort of come together.
“So what we’re doing is loading lorries, loading planes, and sending everything over there. I’ll be travelling hopefully tomorrow, to be on the ground to see how we can find ways in and how we can help on the ground there, basically getting our hands dirty.
“The UK has been amazing. The whole world has been amazing. The government has now stepped up and is doing everything they can.”
He added: “But for us, clothes, blankets, batteries, power packs, warm clothes, are needed: they’re desperate for heat blankets as well battery operated heating blankets, water, food.
“I think it’s getting worse. It’s not getting any better…the cold weather’s destroying everyone over there.
“The weather is horrendous . What’s going on there, it is tough, pulling people out of the rubble and saving lives is one thing but now we have to maintain and help the people that have survived, they’ve lost their homes.
“They’ve lost literally everything, they’ve got nowhere to live and for us now this humanitarian project that we put together isn’t just going to be sort of while this is going on, but it’s going to be an ongoing thing for us to help rebuild and do what we can.”
Tamer continued: “What happens to them within the next couple of days? In the next couple of weeks? If you can understand that 11 cities have literally been flattened, everybody’s lost their homes. They’re out on the streets.
“You know, governments are trying to put up tents, but you’re talking about millions and millions of people across Turkey that are now homeless, sitting in the cold freezing.
“So these are the things that we have to start thinking about as well as manpower on the ground and people digging people up and saving lives, which is always going to be page one, always going to be the first thing that we have to deal with is humanitarian disasters,
“But now, tents, battery packs, power supplies, generators, warm clothes, food. And you know, I can say over the last two days that what’s been happening, it’s been overwhelmingly amazing, the way the world and people have come together, especially the UK.
“Greece, Cyprus, all the neighbouring countries have come to help with what’s going on. We mustn’t forget Syria, we must not forget what’s going on in Syria as a lot of focuses on Turkey.”
