Adult education provider, ACL Essex, is offering businesses the opportunity to train staff free of charge about the benefits of developing a more sustainable world with a new course.
As ACL Essex moves towards a sustainable curriculum, embedding the issue in all curriculum areas, the learning provider is encouraging businesses to take advantage of the free course ‘Do More, Waste Less: An Introduction to a Greener Economy’. Staff can take the free online self-study course to improve their knowledge of what sustainability is, the issues with sustainable development and how we can all contribute to a greener world.
Leading ACL Essex’s green futures initiative is Christian Norman, Vice Principal Curriculum & Learning. He says: “This is a unique opportunity for businesses to make use of our free resources to ensure that every employee is thinking about and consciously acting towards a sustainable future. We all ask ourselves the question “How can I help?” when it comes to climate change and sustainability, and this course helps students learn how.”
He continues: “The course is available online and can be completed in the student’s own time. It’s free of charge and teaches students how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future through the circular economy.”
The Introduction to Sustainability course has been created by BLUEPRINT to a Circular Economy partners, Anglia Ruskin University. The course will be tutor-led and will comprise of online class discussions, small group work and independent activities. Learners who complete the course will be able to progress onto a Level 2 accredited qualification, Climate Change and Environmental Awareness, and this course could be fully funded.
ACL Essex has an ongoing commitment to sustainability and offers a wide range of creative and thrift craft courses, which explore the use of raw and recycled materials, with a focus on recycling, re-purposing and repairing. Sustainability is also a key element of its education, wherever possible environmental issues are discussed or used as a reference point, such as calculating percentages of climate change in maths.
ACL Essex has also signed up to UNFCC Race to Zero campaign. This global campaign rallies leadership and businesses for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs and unlocks sustainable growth.
BLUEPRINT to a Circular Economy is led by Essex County Council and has a total budget of 5.6m euros, of which 3.8m euros were provided by the European Regional Development Fund via the Interreg France (Channel) England programme.
