In light of the UK’s upcoming Community Gardening Week 4th-10th April, Hitchin’s Triangle Community Garden has welcomed a £1000 donation from local housebuilder Barratt Homes. Located only a ten-minute drive from Barratt North Thames’ Lavender Grange development on Bedford Road, the housebuilder noticed the valuable community work carried out by the charity and decided to grant its monthly Community Fund towards their forthcoming activities.
Alongside providing a safe and open space to tend to allotments and produce organic homegrown fruit and veg, the Triangle Community Garden focuses on providing social, therapeutic horticulture through well-being projects for people with learning disabilities. The charity aims to help build the self-esteem and support healthier lifestyles of their members through projects run throughout the year such as Growing Ability, Growing Gang and Growing Health. Barratt North Thames’ donation will support these initiatives being distributed where necessary and helping to fund any equipment and refreshments needed during the activities.

The natural environment has certainly helped many people in our local community. Benefits of a sustained and active interest in gardening include better physical health, an opportunity to connect, improved mental health and just feeling better for being outside, in touch with nature.
We have been fortunate to continue our work, bringing people together, to connect, learn and enjoy in the local community. With the continued need to support more people in the community we are grateful for this financial support so that we can continue to to reach as many people as we can locally and look forward to introducing more young people to the benefits of gardening and nature in 2022!”
