Guide to Roulette betting options

0

It’s believed that the first form of Roulette first span into action n 18th century France. Whilst the concept of the game can be found in different forms throughout ancient history, the primitive version of the wheel we know and love today was established in 1655.

Whilst the wheel was invented by accident, over the years, the intricacy of gameplay, and the betting options available have been carefully curated, in order to offer the best experience possible. So, let us take a look at all of the Roulette betting options, so the next time you play, you’ll know all the lingo and exactly where you wish to take your chance.

Outside Bets

The outside bets are the bets made on the perimeter of the Roulette table. Despite having lower payouts, they generally offer the best winning chances, as many of them offer just under a 50% chance.

  • Red/black

This even money bet is one of the most straightforward. You’ll place your wager on either all the red numbers, or all the black numbers.

  • Odd/even

Here, you’ll be making a bet on whether the outcome is an odd or even number.

  • High/low

High numbers include the numbers 19-36, and low numbers fall within 1-18. Placing a bet on high or low numbers will mean betting on whether the outcome will fall between these groups.

  • Columns

Each column pays out 2:1 or double your bet. A column bet is a bet on the outcome being a number within one of the three columns of 12 numbers that are found on the longest side of the Roulette table.

  • Dozens

This bet also pays out 2:1, and covers 12 numbers as well. With a dozen bet, you’ll either bet on numbers 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are the numbers that are displayed inside the rectangle on the table, where all the numbers are. Examples of these include:

  • Straight up

A bet on any single number. A straight bet pays out 35:1.

  • Split

This is the opposite of a straight bet. Instead of betting on a direct number, you’ll be placing a bet on the line that separates two numbers. The numbers have to be next to each other, and this bet pays out 17:1. You’ll win if either of these numbers come up.

  • Street

This is a bet on any number within a row of three numbers, like 1, 2 and 3, for example. If the result of the spin is any of these three numbers, you’ll receive a pay-out of 11:1.

  • Corner

A corner bet is similar to a split bet, but rather than betting on two numbers next to each other, you’ll be betting that one of four numbers will come up. These numbers also need to touch, forming a square on the table.

  • Line

Much like street bets, a line bet involves betting on two rows of three numbers, rather than one row of three numbers.

  • Five-number bet

This is a bet placed on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. There is a 13.16% chance of winning when you place a five-number bet, and if you do, you’ll receive a pay-out of 6:1.

  • Basket

A basket bet is also known as a ‘first four’ bet, and pays out 6:1. It is a bet on the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3.

  • Snake bet

A snake bet is one of the most unique bets in Roulette. It pays 2:1, and covers the numbers 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32 and 34. When you highlight these numbers in their position on the betting table, you’ll see a sort of snake-pattern – hence why it’s known as a snake bet.

Other types of bets

Whilst outside and inside bets are some of the most common in a game of Roulette, there are many more. There are Call Bets, which are only available on European and French Roulette tables, and are bets that are called out or announced, instead of placing money on the table.

There are Final Bets, which involve betting on the final digit of every number. For example, a final 7 bet would award you with a win if the ball landed in any of the pockets numbered 7, 17, or 27.

Full Complete Bets, also known as maximum bets, takes all the inside betting types and puts them on a specific number. This is most commonly found in high-roller casinos. And lastly, there’s the Imprisonment bet, which you’ll only find whilst playing French Roulette.
