A total of 165,000 people in East England work across adult social care according to a new report released by Skills for Care.
In an extension of Skills for Care’s ‘State of the adult social care sector and workforce in England’ report, which was released in October, the organisation has now released further data specifically analysing the adult social care workforce in East England.
The report finds that as at 2021-22 there are 179,000 jobs (filled posts) across adult social care in East England, with 165,000 people working across the sector.
There was a 3.1% increase in filled adult social care jobs in the region between 2019-20 and 2020-21, but since March 2021 data suggests this is decreasing across England.
There is an average of 12,500 vacancies in the sector advertised in the region on any given day.
The mean hourly pay for a care worker in East England is £10.64 for those employed by the local authority and £9.23 for those employed by an independent provider.
The mean pay for managerial adult social care roles in East England is £18.60 for those employed by the local authority and £14.04 for independent providers.
Skills for Care produces this intelligence from the crucial contributions that care providers make to the Adult Social Care Workforce Data Set (ASC-WDS). This data helps adult social care stakeholders such as local authorities and integrated care systems to understand the workforce on a local level. It helps them to make informed decisions around regional support.
