Harlow Council’s Environment Cabinet Member, Nicky Purse is taking action to clean up and restore pride in Prentice Place following concerns raised by Potter Street residents.
Councillor Purse met with residents and staff from HTS on Tuesday afternoon to look at issues which need immediate attention such as overgrown weeds between cracks in pavements, weeds in planting areas, pigeon droppings, graffiti, a broken litter bin and reports of rats at the back of the shops. Councillor Purse, said:
“The state of Prentice Place and the fact routine maintenance has not taken place is completely unacceptable. I will be sorting this out. The residents I spoke to are passionate about their area and it is clear that they are frustrated with how Prentice Place is currently looking.
“We will now get on with the job of cleaning up Prentice Place and restoring pride in this neighbourhood shopping centre. I will return in a weeks’ time to see what action and progress has been made. We will not just take short-term fixes, but long-term fixes to ensure this area is kept neat and tidy now and in the future.”
Councillor Purse, who was recently appointed to the cabinet, is working closely with HTS and residents to ensure that areas across the town are cleaned up and maintenance standards are being met.
