Harlow Council has taken action to stop a developer from carrying out overnight construction work on the Icon warehouse site following concerns raised by residents.
The council was alerted to a letter sent to residents and planning officers immediately contacted the developer warning them that the works cannot take place. A company working for the developer had written to residents to advise them that they would be carrying out work to one of the warehouse’s floors overnight on 16 and 17 September. This would be a breach of planning conditions for the development and the council would be prepared to take enforcement action.
The developer has informed the council that the works will now be done in phases, taking place during the agreed construction hours for the development.
Councillor Michael Hardware, portfolio holder for strategic growth, which covers planning, said: “We thank residents for alerting us to this letter. We have responded to their concerns and told the developers that under no circumstances can work take place overnight and outside of the agreed construction hours. We made it very clear that that they have to comply with the planning conditions or further action will be taken. Planning officers continue to keep a close eye on the site, including checking the site over the next few nights and we encourage residents to continue to alert us of any issues with the development.”
