Basildon Council are working with community groups to create wildflower meadows across the borough.
Community groups are currently working with the council to undertake planting in Lake Meadows, Norsey Wood and Wickford Memorial Park. There are also plans to create wildflower meadows in Kent View Road, Northlands Park, and Gloucester Park this spring.
The council will soon be undertaking wildflower sowing on eleven roundabouts within the borough, for the second year in succession, and are also thinning out the secondary woodland within Norsey Meadow to help support the growth of wildflowers and grasses.
Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee, Councillor David Harrison, said: “We want to increase our outdoor offering with even more attractive open spaces for residents to enjoy.
“Wildflower meadows are beautiful visually, whilst also making a massive impact on an area’s biodiversity, which we’re fully committed to improving as part of our Pollinator Action Plan.
“The wildflowers we planted last summer were really well received by residents. Lots of residents were emailing in asking for the seed mix for themselves!”
“Thankfully we’ve been able to do that again this year, so by the time Summer comes around, our roundabouts will look fantastic, and hopefully not too distracting for passers-by.”
