Harlow Council’s Mental Health Champion and the Chief Executive of local charity ADAS have surpassed their target of raising £1,000 on the last day of their abstinence from alcohol as part of the fundraising and awareness raising Dry January Campaign.
Cllr Ian Beckett and Gareth Clement reprised their successful partnership after raising a similar amount in 2015. With only a few hours left to go on 31st January this year they had raised a total of £1,013.75 including Gift Aid.
Cllr Beckett said: “ADAS envisions a society that is free from the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs and that’s something I’d like to think everyone in Harlow would sign up to. Through Dry January I’d like to think I’ve helped raise awareness as well as money”.
ADAS works in partnership to support individuals and families affected by alcohol and drug misuse to enable them to make positive lasting changes which improve the quality of their lives. It does this in a non-judgemental way, building strong and supportive relationships with their clients, based on professionalism, mutual respect, integrity and trust.
Gareth Clement said: “Dry January gives people a chance to take a break from alcohol, reassess how and when it features in their life and find out a few facts. The upsides are that you save money and can feel better in the process. I want to thank everyone who has supported Ian and I by donating to ADAS and helping us reach our target”.
ADAS services include advice and information, individual counselling, family therapy, recovery activities, relapse prevention courses, stress, anxiety and anger management group therapy. Like all charities ADAS depends upon the generosity of individuals and organisations that support its work.
