Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) has warmly welcomed the recent announcement by the Government that air ambulance charities across England are to receive a total of £6million to help with their response to COVID-19. The funds will be distributed by Air Ambulances UK, the national organisation which represents and supports air ambulance charities.

The money is part of £22 million in cash grants announced by the Department of Health and Social Care which are to be awarded to life-saving health charities to ensure they can meet increased demand as a result of COVID-19.

Jane Gurney, Chief Executive Officer of EHAAT said: “We are delighted that the Government is providing £6 million of funding for air ambulances across England to help us respond to the COVID-19 pandemic whilst continuing our daily life-saving operations in our local communities.

“We look forward to hearing more details. It costs in excess of £9 million a year to keep EHAAT operational, so however much we receive we will continue to depend on the generosity and goodwill of the people and businesses of Essex and Hertfordshire to keep us flying and saving lives.”
