Fortnightly garden waste collections are to restart in Harlow from Monday 4 May 2020.
The rollout of new cheaper garden waste collections has been on hold since 1 April so resources could be directed to maintaining non-recycling and recycling collections during the developing coronavirus situation.
From Monday 27 April 2020 residents will be able to subscribe to the fortnightly service via the council’s website at www.harlow.gov.uk/green-waste
Existing subscribers have started to receive letters from today on how to renew for the service. This letter is dated 23 March and contains information which was relevant at that time. These letters were printed before the service was suspended and have been sent out now rather than thrown away and wasted.
Taking the delay of introducing the new service into account, the cost for existing subscribers will be £38.50 for 11 months. New subscribers will pay the same cost plus a one-off fee of £30 for a bin or a supply of compostable bags. Homes assessed by the council as not being suitable for bins will be supplied with compostable bags instead of a bin.
Households can further reduce the cost of the service by sharing a bin with neighbours.
New customers may have to wait a couple of weeks for the delivery of a bin due to expected demand for the new service.
There will however be no separate bookable bagged collections for now. This is because the Civic Centre is currently closed to the public meaning residents are unable to buy bags. Under the new scheme residents cannot use their own bags.
