Googlebox star Sandra Martin has been named an ambassador for charity Bonded Thru Cancer. In a message on her Twitter account she tweets “£1 ONLY WILL HELP ME REGISTER MY CHARITY. THANKS TO ALL MY GOGGLEBOX FANS.”
Bonded Thru Cancer (BTC) was founded on September 26th 2014 by Natasha Veerasawmy. She, and other members of her family, have been through the process of being diagnosed with cancer. Natasha also found it to be a lonely and frightening experience, even with each other for support.
While sitting for hours in hospital waiting rooms, Natasha noticed many newly diagnosed patients who were on their own with no-one to talk to; no shoulder to cry on. Natasha felt strongly that no-one should have to go through that experience alone, and she founded BTC so that other people could benefit from her own experience of having somebody who understood what she was going through to talk to while undergoing treatment.
At the heart of BTC are our Buddies. Buddies are people who know what it is like to be alone with your fears and can offer a listening ear and comfort at a time of need. We are a small charity, just starting along the road of becoming established. At present we are only working with Kings College Hospital in Southwark.
Natasha told us “By volunteering you’ll not only help vulnerable people at a time of need but you’ll also be helping to expand our services further. BTC requires the support of survivors and supporters to make sure that newly diagnosed cancer patients don’t go through it alone, and we are so grateful for your help.”
