Southend Leisure & Tennis will be opening its doors to 56 local primary school children on Tuesday 25th February when it hosts a Winter Tennis Festival. Working with Southend Primary School Sports Association, the event is designed to introduce pupils to a wide range of racket sports.

The event, running from 9.30am – 11.30am will welcome 8 pupils from 7 schools in years 3 to 6. The festival will offer two courts for Pickle Ball, two table tennis tables, a tennis court for drills and one for games, two badminton courts and two short tennis courts. All pupils will rotate between the different areas, trying each sport.

Each participating child will receive a certificate at the end of the event and a voucher for a further free taster session at the centre.

Catherine Forsyth, Regional Active Communities Development Manager for Fusion Lifestyle, commented: “The Winter Tennis Festival aims to introduce a range of racket sports to local children, some of which they may not even have thought of trying out. We want to help children find sports they enjoy so they want to keep doing them, staying active and having fun.”

Kirk Edwards of Southend Primary School Sports Association added: “It’s great to see our local leisure provider supporting the work of the School Sports Partnership in providing a range of opportunities for children across the City to try sports and to use the local facilities.”
