Harlow Council is now a Fostering Friendly employer

Harlow Council is now a Fostering Friendly employer – an accreditation by the UK’s leading fostering charity The Fostering Network, which encourages organisations to actively support fostering, and in particular, foster carer employees.

The council has implemented a new policy to make a real difference to its employees who foster, and support others in becoming approved foster carers themselves.

Foster carers at Harlow Council, and those going through the application process, will now be able to apply for flexible working and a minimum of five days extra paid leave for their fostering commitments and to settle young people into their home.

Councillor Hannah Ellis, cabinet portfolio holder for corporate services and transformation, said:

“I am very proud that Harlow Council has become a Fostering Friendly employer. Foster carers can make a life-changing difference to the children they look after, and, as an employer, I think it is so important that we recognise, encourage, and support them.”

“Sadly, there are more children in need of a home than there are foster carers. Whether an employee of Harlow Council or not, I would encourage anyone who has a safe and loving home to offer to consider fostering. It really can change lives.”

If you are considering becoming a foster carer in Harlow, please get in touch with Essex County Council to find out more.

The Fostering Friendly scheme is free to join and open to organisations of any size – contact The Fostering Network if your organisation is thinking of joining.
