THE creator of the charity single Freezing this Christmas has said he wants to have a “bloody good go” at getting the hit to Number 1 for Christmas.
Speaking on GB News, Chris Middleton said: “It’s a bit strange. Obviously, we never really thought in the first place we would even get into the charts. That wasn’t my intention.
“But now that it’s got there, once I got all this support, I did wonder, what if it gets in the chart and the radio stations have to play it? How will they handle it?
“And as we saw yesterday, they tried to avoid it as much as they could. Fair enough, they still played it. They played a part of it. They said the name of the song, but they had to make about three edits to cut that clip that they did play.
“They cut out the line about Keir Starmer being warm this Christmas which obviously the point of that was to highlight the fact that MPs have their heating allowance while pensioners out there are not going to be getting their £200 or £300.
“I think a lot of people are a bit angry with them for not playing the full song and having the guts to play the full song.
“The best thing you can do if you want to support the song, support our pensioners and also send a message to the government that we disagree with this policy is you need to buy the song ‘It’s freezing this Christmas.’
“You can buy it on iTunes and you can buy it on Amazon. You can buy it on both if you wish. You can stream it on all the platforms.
“All of the money will go to charity to help the elderly. We have until midnight on Thursday night to get as many sales, as many streams as we can.
“We’re currently 67th in the overall official chart, which includes download streams and physical sales. I think we can get much, much higher than that.
“Whether we can get to number one when the media seems to want to avoid us I’m not sure. But I think we can have a bloody good go at it.”
