Mid and North East Essex Mind is today (1st November) launching a new service to support people in North East Essex with their mental health and wellbeing.
The new North East Essex Sanctuary, with bases in Colchester and Clacton, will offer a safe space for people to access support when dealing with challenging moments in their lives. Face-to-face support is available at both sites, with support also offered by phone and email.
Mid and North East Essex Mind has been awarded the contract to provide this new community service by NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (SNEE ICB).
Richard Watson, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Strategy and Transformation, SNEE ICB said: “The new North East Essex Sanctuary brings care closer to home for people who live with poor mental health. It provides a community alternative to A&E for those who need urgent support and also a hub where people can go to find help managing other problems such as stress and loneliness.
“The ICB is delighted to introduce this service for the people of north east Essex. Everyone’s mental health is different and the sanctuary model offers individualised care to meet each person’s needs.”
The North East Essex Sanctuary has been set-up to help prevent people from getting into a mental health crisis. Trained personnel are on-hand to offer timely support to stop people feeling overwhelmed or distressed. The team will work with individuals to create personalised plans for anyone requiring help. Each plan will be designed to meet a person’s needs and will dovetail with any other support someone may be receiving.
Ginny Idehen, CEO of Mid and North East Essex Mind, is looking forward to providing enhanced mental health services to the people of North East Essex. She says: “The North East Essex Sanctuary will provide swift, compassionate and effective support to help people cope with challenging moments in their mental health journey.”
She continued: “Mid and North East Essex Mind has been running its Crisis Café services in Colchester and Clacton for the past four years; the new North East Essex Sanctuary will now provide more comprehensive support, 365 days of the year to help those in need. We’re delighted to be commissioned to run this service and look forward to supporting people in our community.”
