Homebuilder Bellway has acquired a site in Saffron Walden where it is proposing to build 233 new homes.
The company exchanged and completed on the purchase of the land off Radwinter Road – which already has outline planning permission in place – in October.
A public consultation process on the plans is currently underway, with a public exhibition held on Wednesday 23 October at Saffron Walden Town Hall and a website created to provide information. The deadline for people to give their feedback is Sunday 10 November.
Bellway is proposing a mix of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes including a selection of First Homes apartments for the land. The development is proposed to be known as ‘Radwinter Gardens’.
Bellway North London Sales Director Greg Allsop said: “Our proposals for the land at Radwinter Road are very exciting for the area, offering a real variety of sustainable modern homes which will help provide much-needed new housing for local people.
“The public consultation process which is underway will help inform the detailed proposals that we submit to the local authority and we would encourage the local community to get involved and let us know their views about the scheme.
“This will very much be a landscape-led project, with more than half of the site retained as open space, including village greens and two children’s play areas, as well as new ponds, grassland, tree and hedge planting and wildflower areas.”
A detailed reserved matters planning application is due to be submitted to Uttlesford District Council later this year, with feedback from the consultation process used to inform Bellway’s approach to the application. Subject to planning permission, Bellway anticipates that the first homes would be released for sale towards the end of next year.
As part of the plan, 40 per cent of the new properties would be affordable homes. All of the homes will have electric vehicle charging points and solar panels.
Bellway’s proposals also include a new bus route through the site and space set aside for a Car Club scheme.
