The contribution from the Essex developer will help to enhance the facilities in the school’s S.E.N.D department, and further the education of the children.
Jenny Tillman, on behalf of the Doddinghurst Junior School PTA, said: “Receiving such generous donations as this one really helps us to benefit the school to get where it really wants to be. Our current project is being called Project Playground, where we hope to raise enough funds for the first phase, which is to reinstate the sport pitch lines in the front playground.
“As we are a PTA for the junior school, we really only help to raise funds for the children, and we have recently given all the classes a ‘wish list’ for them to let us know the things they would like to have to make their day run better. I was surprised how most of them were asking for colouring pens, pencils, play dough, maths and English posters and equipment, and even iPads!
“Sadly, we do not have the money for those as we were only set up last September. Their lists were quite long, and whilst the local community is always welcome to our social events, we often only get attendance from the children’s parents.”
Doddinghurst Junior School’s PTA runs events throughout the year to help raise funds for the school to help it to get the extras that the school’s budget can’t. It holds termly ‘Movie and Munch’ evenings after school, a disco every other term, quiz nights, nights out and an annual Christmas fayre to name a few.
Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Developments. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build and we’re delighted to be able to offer Doddinghurst Junior School’s PTA a contribution towards its excellent work.
“The school works incredibly hard to provide a fantastic learning environment for its pupils, and we’re pleased to have been able to contribute to this.”
