Step into a career that can help save the planet at ACL Essex’s green skills taster sessions.
To mark Earth Day on 22 April, adult education provider ACL Essex is hosting a range of free green skills taster sessions at its Barrack Street centre, Colchester. The free event aims to help people learn how to live more sustainably and discover pathways to green jobs.
Visitors could get involved with science experiments and find out about green jobs in the sector. There will also be information on Retrofit, the process of upgrading homes to make them more energy efficient. ACL Essex’s Retrofit courses can help people to learn more about sustainable practices in homes and become qualified in Retrofit.
Representatives from the Essex County Council Skills and Employability Team will also be on hand to promote the Essex Opportunities Portal and the Essex Careers Magazine.
The event will also treat visitors to a Climate Change Challenge Exhibition with the use of state-of-the-art VR headsets. Plus, there will be the chance to examine fossils and watch demos on renewable energies.
ACL Essex is passionate about the environment and is embedding sustainable practices into all of its courses, from Hair and Beauty to Maths.
Lisa Jarentowski, ACL Essex Principal, said: “We are committed to moving towards a sustainable curriculum. We’re embedding sustainability throughout all of our courses and becoming more conscious of our effect on the environment.”
She continued: “It’s important to educate people on how to have a positive impact on the environment. That’s why we offer a range of green skills courses, from Climate Change and Environmental Awareness to Level 2-5 Retrofit courses. We also show people how they can get into a ‘green career’.”
Lisa added: “Whether you’re developing skills for your job, or you want to learn more about how you can help the environment, join us for a taster session on Earth Day.”
Refreshments will be available and supplied by the Supported Learning team with their sustainable café. Taster sessions will take place on Monday 22 April from 9.30am to 2.45pm at ACL Colchester, Wilson Marriage, Barrack Street, Colchester, CO1 2LR.
