Taylor Wimpey will bring new homes to Wivenhoe this year after receiving planning approval for a development on land behind Broadfields.
Wyvern Place will comprise a mix of 115 one to four-bedroom properties, of which 35 will be affordable, designed fully in line with the adopted Wivenhoe Neighbourhood Plan.
Taylor Wimpey will also create a significant amount of public green space on the 15-hectare site, with walking trails, new trees, hedgerows and planting. Wyvern Place will also include land for new sports fields, a play area and footpath and cycle links to the wider community. The application also means that the currently private wildlife site to the east of the development will be formally opened up for public access.
Taylor Wimpey’s reserved matters planning application was approved by Colchester City Council on 21st December 2023. Work on site is due to start in spring, with the first homes on sale later this year.
David Pelle, Land and Planning Director for Taylor Wimpey London, said: “We’re pleased to have received approval for our Wyvern Place development and grateful to the Wivenhoe community for providing us with their feedback and ideas during the consultation process.
“We recognise that the Wivenhoe Neighborhood Plan is hugely important to local residents and we are glad that councillors have voted in favour of our updated design. We look forward to getting on site shortly, and to sharing details about the first homes available for sale in the coming months.”
Taylor Wimpey has already begun to support the local community and will be continuing this work in 2024 and beyond. On Remembrance Day in November 2022 Broomgrove Junior School pupils were joined by residents to plant 55 memorial trees on the Wyvern Place site.
Local resident Phil Long wanted to create a living memorial to honour the 55 men of Wivenhoe who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. He secured the trees from The Woodland Trust as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project, but needed somewhere to plant them. Phil has since unveiled a permanent memorial on the same site.
