One Beyond, the UK’s newest discount store, has confirmed it is to take over the former Wilko site at The Meadows Shopping Centre in Chelmsford.
The new store, which is set to open later this month, has also agreed to take on many of staff previously employed by Wilko, which closed on 5th October.
One Beyond is one of the fastest growing value retailers in the UK. They opened their first store in 2019 and now operate more than 100 stores nationwide.
The business was founded by the former founders of Poundworld, Chris and Christopher Edwards.
“We are delighted to welcome One Beyond to The Meadows,” said General Manager Sue Patel.
“They are an exciting and dynamic brand and will offer the city centre a brand-new value retailer.
“The fact they have been able to take on many of the former Wilko staff is particularly good news and we’re looking forward to their grand opening later this month and welcoming back some familiar faces!
“Our aim is to be a community hub for Chelmsford, offering choices for shopping, meeting family and friends, eating and drinking, plus enjoying valued leisure time.
“I’m sure One Beyond will be a welcome addition to what we have to offer our visitors,” she added.
Located in the heart of Chelmsford city centre between the rivers Can and Chelmer, The Meadows is home to more than 30 places to shop and eat plus the eight-screen Odeon cinema.
It was acquired last year by Dominus Real Estate one of UK’s most active developers, passionate about providing genuine public benefits through the delivery of student accommodation, hotels and residential developments.
