A Rochford Hospital administrator is putting her best foot forward next June and taking part in the 2024 London Marathon to help raise money for a charity which is close to her heart.
Sian Elmy, who has worked for the Trust for ten years, is running the 26.2 mile course on 21 June for Macmillan Cancer Support, who supported her family after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sian was over the moon to get offered a place after applying last minute. She wants to raise as much money as possible through her Justgiving page.
She said: “Macmillan were there from the very start and helped support not just my mum but us as a family, physically, emotionally and financially.
“We attended coffee mornings that we as a family found reassuring and it gave you a chance to talk to other families going through a similar sort of thing.
“This is now my chance to give back what I can to support the charity.”
Since securing her place, Sian has joined a local running club, has been training with them for six weeks and has found it very motivational.
Sian, who has so far raised £377 of her £2,500 target, said: “I have always enjoyed running and found it great for my mental health.
“After I had my son last year, I’ve never had as much time to get out for a run or I always found an excuse not to go as I was usually too tired.
“As the marathon was something I’ve always wanted to do I thought this will push me to get back into running regularly and to actually achieve something for me.”
