Braintree District Council received 40 awards at the 2023 Essex Playing Field Association Awards for the quality of the parks and green spaces in the Braintree district.

Marshalls Park in Braintree won a gold award and was also the overall winner in the Class 5 category (this is awarded to playing fields which are professionally maintained and managed by larger authorities and commercial organisations).

In total the council received 18 gold awards, 19 silver awards and three certificates of merit.

The awards ceremony was held at Springfield Cricket Club in Chelmsford on Thursday 19 October 2023 and was attended by Braintree District Council’s Vice-Chairman Councillor Lyn Walters, who received the awards on behalf of the Council.

This achievement recognises the staff’s efforts and hard work in maintaining the playing fields across the district to a high standard.

Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation, the Environment and Customer Services, and Deputy Leader at Braintree District Council said: “This is again another fantastic achievement that reflects the high standard and quality of our playing fields and open spaces across the district, and credit goes to those who work hard to maintain and protect them to benefit our residents. Our parks, open spaces and play areas also make a huge contribution towards health and wellbeing.”

Councillor Lyn Walters, Vice-Chairman of Braintree District Council, said: “I was delighted to represent Braintree District Council at the awards ceremony and to see the standard and quality of our open spaces being recognised by the Essex Playing Fields Association.”
