PRIME Minister Rishi Sunak has been backed to pull off a surprise win for the Conservatives at the next General Election by the MP Philip Davies.
Davies, a GB News presenter, said: “It’s going to be tough. Obviously, you know, we’re in a bad situation. I think there is time, just, because I think if Rishi Sunak could sort some of these things out, particularly the boats, it would make a big difference.
“And I think he’s right, that people are really annoyed with us. They’re really frustrated with us, but they’re not particularly won over by Keir Starmer, hence the low turnout of these by-elections.
“There are lots of voters out there who are up for grabs, who are waiting for the Conservatives to deliver something that they can get their teeth into.”
Speaking to Martin Daubney and Ellie Costello, he added: “It would be like Lazarus to bring us back from when he took over a year ago. But if anybody can do it, I think he could do it.”
Asked if he thought the party would be in power in a year’s time, he said: “I don’t know. I mean, if there’s an election tomorrow, we wouldn’t. But, I don’t know, we’ve got a massive mountain to climb.
“I couldn’t sit here today and say, ‘oh, yes, we’re definitely going to win the next election’, I would be a fool to say that, wouldn’t I? We’ve got a mountain to climb and the odds are against us.
“But if he sorts out the big issues facing the country, and if we make it an election about Sunak versus Starmer, rather than Conservative versus Labour, yeah, I think we’ve got a chance at least.”
