Miles for Milo – fundraising for RSPCA Essex Mid and North Branch

During the month of October RSPCA Essex Mid and North Branch are running a Fundraiser called ‘Miles for Milo’, which will be raising money for our veterinary services.

Milo was a beautiful, happy, loyal and wonderful little dog from Clacton on Sea, Essex. Milo, a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug cross), loved going for walks, particularly to the Vista Road Park where he could chase the trains along the fence line and no doubt raise a chuckle from some of the passengers.

For most of Milo’s 10-year life, he was fit and well, but sadly a few months ago, his health deteriorated and he eventually lost his battle against liver disease and cancer in September.

His loving owner Lena Scanu and her children, Freya and Louie were really touched by the care and support given by vet, Megan O’Leary and the team at the RSPCA Clinic in Colchester. They decided they’d like to do something fantastic to help other local animals in our clinic and preserve the memory of Milo.

During the month of October, Lena and her family, along with Lena’s sister, Trina, will embark on a walking challenge where they hope to clock up 200 miles and raise £500 for RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch. They’ll be taking pictures of their walks, some of which will feature their other dog, a little French Bulldog called Lola, and sending these in to us. We’ll be posting updates on our Facebook page so you can follow their journey.

Megan said, “Milo was a mild-mannered gentleman, whose kind soul shone through, and made him an absolute pleasure to treat.” Megan also
spoke about the family’s idea and said “They’re such a lovely bunch. It’s very warming. The fundraiser, ‘Miles For Milo’, couldn’t be more apt. It expresses the depth that his owner, Lena, was prepared to go, to offer Milo the best possible care during his illness. She was ready to go ‘The extra mile’ and made every step count.”
