Ever wondered what it would take to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title? Participants at the Hisense Laser TV Championships at Bluewater Shopping Centre helped Hisense set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Staring Competition, through its ‘easy on the eyes’ laser TVs.

This staring competition had a twist – long gone are the days of staring intensely into the eyes of a fellow competitor. This group of 296 record-setters stared at tech giant Hisense’s innovative Laser 120-inch L9 TVs, which featured a video of Youtube star Theo Baker staring right back at them. Theo also hosted the competition, which throughout the course of the day generated an incredible total staring time of 4 hours, 30 minutes and 12 seconds across all participants!

Staring for an impressive 16 minutes 30 seconds, Abhishek Bajaj, aged 36, was crowned the winner of the Hisense Laser TV Championships, walking away with not only that claim to fame, but a prize worth almost £5,000! Abhishek from Gravesend, Kent, won a Hisense Laser 120-inch L9 TV (RRP £3,999) as well as £1,000!

When asked about his incredible feat of staring for more than 16 minutes without looking away or blinking, Abhishek commented: “I was focused. I believe it’s not about eyes, but about your mind. When you tell your mind or your mind tells you that you can do it then I believe you can do anything you want in this world. It’s a magical moment for me winning, I am feeling on top of the world!”

Officiating the championships, two adjudicators from Guinness World Records were present to oversee each hopeful contestant’s blink and eye flutter and proclaim Hisense as the proud holder of a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title.

William Sinden from Guinness World Records said, “It really was an eye-opening day adjudicating this GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt and the ultimate success! We’re thrilled to announce that Hisense has managed to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Staring Competition with almost 300 competitors – making Hisense the current GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holders!”

Hisense’s innovative Laser L9 TVs display breathtaking 4K Ultra HD resolution and create an enjoyable viewing experience with their ‘easy on the eye’ projection.

Academician Xu Zuyan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering introduces the principle of Laser TV health eye protection explaining: “The Hisense Laser 120-inch L9 TV is easier on the eye than traditional OLED models, due to its diffuse reflection imaging technology, which is why we chose to showcase the power of comfortable viewing for the world to see in this dramatic environment. The Hisense Laser TV allows for lower light intensity than a traditional OLED TV and actively avoids harmful blue light while ensuring the same viewing output, causing less visual fatigue for long-time viewing.”
