33 Tory MPs have signed a pledge not to raise taxes, former Conservative Party chairman Jake Berry has said.

He told GB News: “We need public services to rely on but I think people just think that enough is enough and that’s why I’ve launched this tax pledge signed by 32 of my other colleagues, saying we won’t put taxes up anymore.

“…it’s great to have so many Conservative MPs supporting it and I think we’ve heard a change in the language from Jeremy Hunt and Michael Gove.

“Only this time last year Michael Gove was going round conference saying it is unconservative to promise to cut taxes.

“What a difference a year makes. Michael Gove, who’s back in the game – come on Govey, let’s get those taxes down.”

In a discussion with Gloria De Piero, he continued: “It doesn’t stop the Government raising taxes. They can still put tax up on cigarettes and alcohol, they’ve just got to find a way of saving it somewhere else.

“This is a new block of Conservative MPs and we welcome Members of Parliament from other parties…

“I don’t think the Government will bring forward a budget with an increase in their overall tax budget because they will understand that it is not supported by Members of Parliament.”

He added: “We need a lower tax high growth economy. And I know that Jeremy Hunt…is going to deliver that for us.”
