Home Instead South Woodham and Ferres is hosting a series of sessions supporting families with the challenges that come from loved one’s ageing. The ‘Key To Care’ sessions will provide advice and support on a range of topics, from dementia to Parkinson’s.
Often communities and families are desperate for a ‘one-stop shop’ that brings together crucial information, Home Instead South Woodham Ferrers refer to this as the ‘stuck moment’. Meanwhile, the information required is usually scattered around various organisations and support services.
By hosting Key to Care sessions, they will provide this much-needed service in one place. The local community have different questions or needs depending on where he/she is in their understanding of their need for care services. They might be seeking specific information about conditions such as dementia or Parkinson’s, or perhaps just want to know about how to access care services and receive funding.
‘There are around 900,000 people with dementia in the UK, with this figure set to rise to 1.6m by 2040. Often, people make enquiries about Home Instead’s care services and have little knowledge about dementia; it’s a subject that they have shied away from discussing with family. Home Instead is keen to raise awareness of the condition across the community so that families are prepared before they reach that stage.’
Cllr Sarah Jane Page, Vice Chair at Rochford District Council will be launching the free sessions on Friday 1st September from 3pm at Squires Coffee Shop High Street, Rayleigh and will plan to welcome:
– Head of Procurement, Adult Social Services, (Essex County Council)
– Dept of Public Health (Essex County Council)
– Nursing & Quality Directorate NHS Continuing Healthcare (Mid & South Essex)
– Senior Community Nurse Lead (District Nurses)
– Chartered Financial Planner – (Society for Later Life Advisors)
– MD (The Harbour Club Day Centre)
– Stroke Association
– Alzheimer’s Society
– Parkinson’s UK
With external speakers coming along to share their knowledge and experience, the sessions will provide the opportunity to get answers to questions and feel informed when it comes to taking the next step.
Dorothy Nwankwo, Owner of Home Instead South Woodham and Ferres said: “We have supported a lot of families dealing with the challenges of getting old or seeing loved ones age. Often, these people struggle and must quickly learn what support is available and how to access it.
“To give back to the community, we’re hosting monthly events where information about ageing well, planning for care, and conditions such as dementia can be discussed and shared. With the expert team we have put together, we can’t wait to give these families valuable guidance and support.”
