A popular summer ball being organised by an association of retired and semi-retired professional and business people is set to raise funds for charity.
The Frinton, Walton and District Probus Club is staging its annual ball at Frinton Golf Club on Friday, 11th August.
The event supports a charity of the president’s choice and this year’s beneficiary is East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
President Len Parton nominated EACH after being inspired by its new shop in Connaught Avenue, Frinton.
Speaker Secretary Mike Woodward said: “We have monthly meetings and social events throughout the year, with the main event being our summer ball.
“In more recent years we’ve been raising funds for charity, and it comes from proceeds of our raffle, in addition to any surplus money after costs have been taken into account.
“We’ve already sold more than 60 tickets and we’ve previously raised between £400 and £500.
“We’ll also have collection pots on the night, so more will hopefully follow.
“We’re looking forward to another fantastic night and more live music from The Revival Band.
“Hopefully the opportunity to raise funds and show support for such a wonderful charity will give members even more reason to donate.”
Previous charities to benefit are Cancer Research UK, National Animal Welfare Trust and Medical Detection Dogs.
A cheque presentation will take place at the Probus Club’s special lunch in January 2024.
The Probus Club’s objective is to promote social contact and fellowship among its members.
Membership is open to professionals and businessmen who have fully retired, are near retirement or are partially retired from their normal profession or business.

EACH’s Frinton shop opened in May, with the ribbon being cut by Pat Mack and 15-year-old son Callum Van-as. The pair, who live in the town, were picked because of the care and support they receive at The Treehouse, in Ipswich.
EACH also has shops in Clacton, Dovercourt and Halstead, in addition to two in Colchester.
