Foot Locker Europe unveils the new and exclusive Nike TN Marseille to pay tribute to the vibrant culture of the city of Marseille, with a design that celebrates the uniqueness, boldness and talent of the community.
Ahead of the 25th Anniversary of TN later this year, and following the exclusive drops in Saint-Denis, Brixton (England) and Berlin (Germany), the brand has now drawn inspiration from Marseille to develop this new pair with a key purpose to highlight and empower its community.
Marseille is France’s second-largest city and one of the cradles of French urban culture, where passion for sport and streetwear come together. Today, the city is a hotbed of street culture, thanks in particular to its legendary soccer team (Olympique de Marseille), but also to the strong development of rap, hip-hop and street art.
The pair’s bold aesthetic recalls the colors of the sunny city in the south of France. White and light blue are a nod to Marseille’s seaside and climate. These colors also refer to the city’s flag, which features an azure cross on a white background. The geometric design of TN Marseille recalls the architecture of the roof of the Stade Vélodrome and the city’s coat of arms, which stands for “Marseille brille par ses grandes réalisations” (“Marseille shines through its great achievements”).
For the advertising campaign, Foot Locker has once again involved local urban communities. The brand worked with a number of talents based in Marseille, including Le Rat Luciano from the Fonky Family, JMK$, a striper from the Foot Locker Grand Littoral store and photographer Julien Boudet (Bleu Mode). By working with these talents, Foot Locker is highlighting the generational transmission in the Marseille rap world, just as TN has evolved over the generations. The brand also worked with videographer Yann Ezzedine, who created a video that takes viewers on an immersive journey to the heart of Marseille, focusing on emblematic personalities of the city’s urban culture and the influence of the TN.
The Nike TN Marseille will be available exclusively in four Foot Locker stores in Marseille (Saint-Ferreol, Terrasses du Port, Grand Littoral and La Valentine) from August 17, 2023.
To celebrate the launch, Foot Locker has planned a bold promotional campaign for the new sneaker. From August 7, the brand will be plastering the streets of Marseille with street-art posters highlighting the latest advertising campaign. Afterwards, the Foot Locker store in Saint-Ferréol will be covered in graphics inspired by the aesthetics of the new TN.
The private pre-launch party is scheduled for August 16 in the same store, followed by a series of exciting activities on the day of the big launch: August 17. On the program; meet and greet with the talents featured in the advertising campaign, a DJ set, goodies will be handed out, a photobooth will allow customers to keep souvenirs of the moment, giveaways will be set up and other surprises will be in store!
Following the initial launch, the TN Marseille pair will be available throughout Europe from August 24, 2023.
