On a sunny day at the end of June, residents of Hatfield Peverel in Essex opened their gardens to the public. The event was organised by Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and supported by Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Communities, and the event raised over £2,000 for the charity.
Gardeners of all abilities from complete novices to experienced horticulturalists welcomed visitors into their gardens – helping to fund support for those living with cancer.
On show were formal gardens, cottage gardens, family gardens and gardens for wildlife. Gardens of all sizes took place in the event, ranging from small courtyard gardens to the large garden and woodland area of The Crix. Visitors to the gardens viewed stunning roses and summer flowers in full bloom, beautiful borders, ponds and patios.
Visitors picked up their maps from the Helen Rollason centre in Hatfield Peverel and ended their tour with tea, coffee, home-made cakes and the opportunity to purchase reasonably priced plants.
Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Fundraiser Zoe Jay said “All the money raised will go towards providing support for those living with cancer. We would like to thank the RHS, the residents who opened their gardens, the visitors, the local businesses that donated plants, those who baked and donated cakes, and our dedicated team of volunteers who helped with the organisation”.
