Council urges people to help shape the future of the Braintree district

Residents are being invited to help shape the future of the Braintree district and Braintree District Council’s priorities over the next four years.

From today (Tuesday, 18 July) people can comment on how they feel about living and/or working in the Braintree district and what is most important to them. The responses will be used to develop a new Corporate Strategy for 2024-2028, which will help shape local priorities over the next four years.

Questions focus on key themes around housing and infrastructure, the economy, health and wellbeing services, the community and the local environment.

People are also being asked their views on approaches the council could take to save money or generate income which will help the council manage long-term budget pressures, something facing all local authorities and so it can continue providing essential front-line services.

Councillor Graham Butland, Leader of Braintree District Council, said: “Braintree District Council, like many of its residents, is facing challenging times. The change in the role of local government, budget pressures together with rising service expectations makes gaining people’s feedback on the district’s priorities for the next 4 years crucial, so we can ensure the plans for the district’s future reflect the hopes and priorities of everyone.

“We want all residents and all businesses to contribute as the plan is not ours alone. We want to understand what is important to you so you can help shape your district for current and future generations.”

Residents, businesses and partners can take part in the consultation online at: www.braintree.gov.uk/shapingyourdistrict.

If residents require a paper version of the form, they can request by calling 01376 552525 or visiting the council offices at Causeway House, Braintree.

The consultation is open until 5pm on Friday 1 September 2023.

Once the consultation closes in September, the feedback received will help to shape the new four-year Corporate Strategy starting from April 2024. Feedback will also be shared with public sector partners and other community organisations to improve working relationships and local services to make the Braintree district an even better place to live, work and visit
