ANN Widdecombe has backed a call by Nigel Farage for the formation of a new political party to challenge the Tory Party.
The Strictly star and former minister told GB News: “I do think it’s a very good idea, there is now a very large splintering of the centre-right, we’ve got some who are sticking with the Tories in Parliament but don’t like any of it.
“We’ve got parties like Reclaim and Heritage and all the rest of it. We’ve got the big one which is Reform and I think it would be a very, very good idea.
“The Conservatives need challenging. They’ve lost their way, they’ve become a high tax, high spend party, there’s very little difference between them and Labour.”
In a discussion with Mark Dolan, she continued: “I think they need a big challenge and there would be nothing like the challenge of the formation of another party which was credible and had big people in it.
“It’s Reform that led the way and is of course based on what was first called the Brexit Party, which delivered Boris that majority. He was never grateful for it.
“He never gave us any credit for it, but we delivered him that huge majority and I think that we could do a very great deal. We’re going to contest every single seat in the next general election. That’s very significant.
“We didn’t do that as the Brexit party. We’re going to do it next time. I think that’s significant.”
She added: “This is the people’s chance now. Do you want a new sort of politics in Britain?”
