A group of local golfers are organising a fundraising golf day in Thorpe Bay to support the charity Gold Geese, which helps children and young people fighting cancer in the Southend and Basildon areas.
The ‘Gold Geese and Friends Charity Golf Day’ will take place at Thorpe Hall Golf Club on Friday, 15th September, during childhood cancer awareness month and the charity’s annual Go Gold campaign which sees local schools and businesses showing their support for local families affected by childhood cancer.
Event activities organised by the Thorpe Hall Golf Heroes include:
18 holes of golf with prizes for the top 5 teams
Feature holes hosted by Gold Geese and Friends
Beat the Pro, nearest the pin and longest drive
Deluxe BBQ for players and their partners
Silent online and evening auction loaded with unique items
Ex Ministry of Sound DJ playing classic house music
Tickets cost £600 for teams of four, with 75% of proceeds going to Gold Geese and 25% to other local charities.
Gold Geese provides practical and emotional support to local families of children and young people fighting cancer. Support is tailored to each family’s needs and ranges from funding for mental health therapy and food shop vouchers to toys, weekend trips away and practical help with travel to and from hospital.
Thorpe Hall Golf Heroes spokesperson Andy Sterry says:
“We have strong ties to Gold Geese and we’ve supported them since the beginning. As always the day will be full of good humour, fantastic prizes and the occasional feature hole.
Over the years we’ve raised over £250,000 for local charities and we’d love to raise as much as possible this year so Gold Geese and the other beneficiary charities can continue to support our local community. We welcome golfers of all ages and abilities to come along and join the fun.”
Katie Southgate, founder of Gold Geese, says:
“We’re hugely grateful for Thorpe Hall Golf Heroes’ support over the years and their annual fundraising event has been paramount in the growth and development of Gold Geese. We receive no government funding and rely on community donations to fund our vital work.
“Around 1,900 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it causes a huge upheaval for everyone in the family – emotionally, physically and often financially.
“We’re there every step of the way for local families affected by childhood cancer. Our slogan is ‘We Fly Together’, because geese are a team and no one is left behind.”
