UKRAINE’S long-awaited counter-offensive against Russian forces is ready to be launched within days, according to the country’s former president.
Petro Poroshenko told GB News he was travelling to the frontline tomorrow and added: “The timing of our counter-offensive, it will start if not within hours then definitely within days.
“But Russia should know that this is not the Second World War. This is the modern war and Russia should understand that it’s not a counter-offensive, this is our offensive operation.
“That could start at any moment, in any place, and definitely these tactics will bring us the victory, because the surprise effect gives us some advantages.”
In a discussion with Mark Longhurst during GB News Live, he said Kyiv has been subjected to 17 waves of drone and missile attacks this month so far.
He continued: “It’s impossible to sleep in Kyiv, for 17 times this month we have been awakened from 2am to 5am. This is because Russia attacks civilian targets in residential areas and targets critical energy infrastructure.
“They want to kill us and we want to live. We are strong, we are strong and united and it will be stopped as soon as Ukraine becomes a NATO member.
“That’s why we very much appreciate the support of Ukrainian NATO membership from Great Britain. And the sooner it happens, the better.”
He denied that Ukraine was responsible for a drone attack on Moscow and said: “Russia should be under constant insecurity as long as the war in Ukraine continues, Russia should understand there is no safe place.
“Definitely, the most dangerous is on the battlefield and tomorrow I will go with an artillery truck to the battlefield in less than 24 hours.
“But with no safe place, we really want to send a message to Russia that there will be no safe place in Russia either. Remember that.”
