From the complex duties of royalty and the heart breaking turmoil of romance to bitter thespian rivalry and riotous, laugh-out-loud comedy, Frinton Summer Theatre provides a festival of the arts for Essex theatre lovers this summer.
Tickets to the 2023 McGrigor Hall season go on sale from April 4th, with a sumptuous menu of world class theatre brought to Tendring.
A series of six shows to be performed at McGrigor Hall Theatre in Frinton on Sea this summer begins on 11th July with David Seidler’s The King’s Speech. This inspiring tale of a monarch at their most vulnerable is followed on 18th July by Barefoot in the Park, Neil Simon’s charming romantic comedy about two newly-weds negotiating those tricky first weeks in the shadow of an indomitable mother.
The programme continues from 25th to 29th July with Folk by Nell Leyshon. This beautiful play tells the story of how Cecil Sharp collected the folk songs of Somerset and gave them to the world. Then from 1st – 5th August we’ll be transported to the mayhem of criminal hijinks in The Ladykillers by Graham Lineham. Ealing comedy at its finest.
Anton Burge’s Bette & Joan then focuses on the fierce feud that shaped the careers of rival Grand Dames of Hollywood, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. The play runs from 8th to 12th August. The season finale concludes with the ultimate farce for the ultimate affair, Marc Camoletti’s Don’t Dress for Dinner is performed between 15th and 19th August.
All evening performances are at 7.30pm with matinee performances at 2.30pm and ticket prices range from £20 to £25 for evening shows and from £18 to £23 for matinees, with a 10% discount if you book every show in the McGrigor Hall season.
And there so much more! The 2023 Frinton Summer Theatre season is complemented by a Comedy Night on Saturday, 8th July at the Hall and two Music Nights on Sunday 16th July and Sunday 13th August at The Frinton Lawn Tennis Club.
Tickets go on Priority Sale for members of the Friends of Frinton Summer Theatre from Tuesday 4th April at 10am before going on General Sale from Tuesday 11th April at 10am. Group discounts are also available for bookings of more than 30 people.
Artistic director, Clive Brill, said: “Every year we strive to bring top quality entertainment and performers to Frinton and I believe we are about to embark on one of our strongest seasons ever. I can’t wait to welcome back our loyal audience and hope we’ll entice some newbies too!”
The McGrigor Hall season is just part of the Frinton Summer Theatre’s programme of activities for 2023. The fabulous Big Top Tent will once again take centre stage on Frinton’s Greensward for a musical theatre production in August, while a series of school engagement projects and community initiatives, including the Crafts & Coffee Club at 60 Connaught Avenue in Frinton on Sea (our box office), will run across the Tendring District in collaboration with Frinton Summer Theatre.
