Braintree District Council has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Keep Britain Tidy Network Awards 2023 for their work on the 2022 Love Parks campaign.
Braintree District Council is one of three local authorities to be shortlisted for a Keep Britain Tidy Award in the category of ‘Love Parks Award 2023’, which recognises an outstanding event or campaign during Love Parks Week which took place from 29 July to 5 August 2022.
Braintree District Council took part in the campaign by highlighting different local parks across the district, encouraging local residents to talk about and visit their favourite park or green space.
The campaign also raised the profile of Braintree District Council’s staff teams, partners and volunteers who tend to the parks on a regular basis, with their hard work being recognised by local residents. Working in partnership with local parish and town councils, Braintree District Council has a horticultural team of 30 members of staff who, alongside many individuals and groups of dedicated volunteers, maintain the district’s council-owned parks.
This includes the Council’s team of 500 Green Heart Champions, a team of volunteers of all ages who are passionate about ensuring their surroundings are clean and tidy by litter picking in their local parks, open spaces and streets.
Cllr Wendy Schmitt, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and The Environment at Braintree District Council, said: “I am delighted that we have been shortlisted as a finalist for the Keep Britain Tidy Network Awards 2023 for our Love Parks Week 2022.
“The Love Parks Week initiative was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the benefits of our parks and green spaces, and the hard work that goes into maintaining them.
“We are very proud of our parks and green spaces. Our staff, partners and volunteers are working tirelessly to maintain our green spaces to ensure they are in great condition all year round and can be enjoyed by everyone.”
The awards will take place on 9 February 2023.
