Anders Walter’s IVALU, based on an acclaimed graphic novel by the same name, shares a story of a young girl deeply impacted by the disappearance of her sister. This heartfelt film was shot in the stunning icy scenery of Greenland and has now been nominated for an Academy Award. Walter and the producer Kim Magnusson are both Academy® Award winners.

Ivalu is gone. Her little sister is desperate to find her. She explores the Greenlandic landscape as well as her memory to discover where Ivalu has gone. Her father does not care. Where is Ivalu?

Anders Walter is an OSCAR® winning film director and screenwriter. He won for his short film HELIUM in 2014 and 9 METER was shortlisted for an OSCAR in 2013. Anders directed his first feature film, I KILL GIANTS (US) in 2016 and is currently working on his next feature film. He shares “It’s a great feeling to be nominated again after 9 years. I feel great joy on behalf of the entire team behind the film, and the performances of the two young actors in particular fill me with enormous pride. An Oscar nomination is both a celebration, but even more importantly, it is an opportunity for the film to make a difference for the far too many children who experience abuse at home”.

IVALU is produced by Rebecca Pruzan and Kim Magnusson. Rebecca Pruzan is an independent producer who was previously commissioning editor of Children’s Programming at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR). IVALU is the first film Pruzan has produced. “To be nominated for IVALU – a film so close to our hearts and against all odds – makes me happy and proud in a way words cannot express. It’s an immense honor to be nominated and a fantastic recognition of everyone who worked so hard in making this film come to life. IVALU is a strong and poetic film that sheds light on a very important and sensitive subject. Abuse is the children’s problem but the adults’ responsibility. Regardless of culture and nationality. I hope IVALU will open the eyes and hearts of all who see it”.

Kim Magnusson founded M&M Productions with his father, Tivi Magnusson in 1995. He was later headhunted to run Nordisk Film’s Film Division. He has produced or Executive Produced more than 150 films, and TV-series such as ADAM’S APPLES, HEADHUNTER, TERKEL IN TROUBLE, R, PUSHER II &P III, MEN & CHICKEN and I KILL GIANTS. He has been Oscar® nominated in the category “Live Action Short Film” six times and won the coveted award 2 times – in 1999 for ELECTION NIGHT and in 2014 for HELIUM. Kim Magnusson has been the chairman of the Danish Producers Association for 9 years as well as chairman of the Danish Film Academy for 20 years. He recently co-founded a new pan-Nordic distribution company Scandinavian Film Distribution. “It is absolutely fantastic that we have been judged and honored by the members of the Academy and now are amongst the last 5 in the world’s most prestigious film award. Again, we are reminded of how many talented film creators we have in Denmark. Through the years the Short Film category has been in a turmoil, but every year all these great shorts with so many diverse and important stories remind us why it’s important to keep the category alive. I am truly honored for the recognition of IVALU and everyone behind it”.

The Stella cast includes newcomers Mila Heilmann Kreutzmann (Pipaluk) and Nivi Larsen (Ivalu).
